(Fr) New York Cosmos B 3v0 New York Dutch Lions
Friday 16th June 2017
MCU Park, New York, Attendance -
Celebrations
for Dutch Heritage night kicked off at MCU Park with an exhibition match
between Cosmos B and NY Dutch Lions, with the match consisting of halves of
just 25mins.
The
Lions were managed by former Cosmos and Dutch international Wim Rijsgbergen and
his Lions were beaten 3v0.
Cosmos
dictated the play from the start and had plenty of early efforts on goal from
Najera and Thierjung.
The
breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Rashid was fouled in the area and
Coutinho scored from the spot for the second consecutive match.
Cosmos
continued to apply the pressure and the Lions keeper made a great save halfway
through the first half after Radjen linked up with Ballard.
Despite
pressure as the half wore on the Cosmos had to settle for a 1v0 lead at half
time.
The
home side added to the scoreline in the 2nd half with goals from David Nigro
and Lucas Mendes. The Lions had some opportunities for a consolation goal, but
they ended scoreless on the day.
It
didn't take long for New York to double the lead in the 2nd half, with Ruiz
scoring after a breakaway 3 mins into the 2nd half.
The
action tailed off slightly although Cosmos were still on top and Capozucchi
went close with a header on 35mins.
New
York Cosmos made it 3v0 through Mendes following a cross from Bardic.
Mendes
and Bardic had efforts late in the game, but the Lions prevented further damage
as the game ended 3v0.
