(NPSL 2017) Boston City 1v1 New York Cosmos B
Saturday 29th April 2017
Brother Gilbert Stadium, Massachusetts, Attendance -
Cosmos
B opened their NPSL campaign with a draw at Boston City in windy conditions.
Boston had a good spell early on and were rewarded with a goal. Cosmos lost the
ball in their own half and the ball was played to Batista who showed some good
footwork to earn him a shooting opportunity and he tucked an effort just inside
the post past Zobeck.
New
York were stung into action and almost replied straight away as Coutinho found
Thierjung beyond the Boston defence and he found the net, only to be called
offside. But the same 2 players linked up again minutes later to good effect
and this time the flag stayed down and Thierjung produced a fine chip to level the scores.
Straight
from the restart Boston had a chance to regain the lead but a well struck
effort went narrowly wide.
With
the wind behind them Boston were eager to take a lead into half time and almost
edged ahead when a well taken free-kick struck the bar and the overhead kick
from the rebound went straight at Zobeck.
Boston
continued to press and in the 38th minute a Boston player almost stole in at
the far post after a cross from the right but the angle was too tight and the
effort went wide.
Boston
continued their superiority into the 2nd half and came desperately close to
scoring early after the interval but Cosmos survived. But now with the
advantage of the wind behind them Cosmos started to have more attacking play
and there was a scramble in the Boston area just before the hour mark when a
free-kick was headed across goal but the Boston keeper managed to smother the
ball.
Cosmos
had another sight of goal later in the half but from a tight angle the ball was
blazed well off target.
Tensions
flared s the game wore on which did not help the fluidity of the game and in
the final stages it was Boston who were pressing harder for a winner, but with
no further scoring the game ended level.
