(NPSL 2017) New York Cosmos B 1v0 Seacoast United Phantoms
Saturday 10th June 2017
Rocco Commisso Stadium, New York, Attendance -
Cosmos
B extended their winning run to 4 games with a narrow win over Seacoast United
Phantoms. In humid conditions Rashid emerged as the main threat to the Phantoms
in the early stages, with Theirjung on the other wing also impressing.
But
it needed an early save by Guerrero in goal for the Cosmos to prevent the
visitors taking the lead in the 11th minute, although there were some early
efforts from Theirjung for the home side at the other end.
Cosmos
were forced into a substitution after only 15mins with Alvarez forced off
through injury, but soon after Cosmos took the lead from the penalty spot when
Williams was felled after a good run.
Coutinho
stepped up to convert the penalty to put the home side ahead.
The
visitors responded straight away with Guerrero again called into action to
prevent an immediate equaliser, but Cosmos were soon threatening again with
efforts from Rashid and Coutinho on the Seacoast goal. Ruiz went even closer
later in the half with a rocket of an effort that hit the post.
Cosmos
were looking to get a second goal but could not turn their superiority into
goals and almost were made to pay for it late in the first half when Seacoast's
Haji struck the crossbar.
Cosmos
continued to search for the 2nd goal after the interval as Thierjung saw
another effort go wide. Thierjung then turned provider as his cross was met by
Bardic whose header was saved and the rebound was eventually cleared.
Cosmos
continued to dominate possession in the heat, but still the 2nd goal would not
come and Nigro's powerful effort after 72mins was somehow saved by the Seacoast
keeper.
Cosmos
would have to settle for the solitary goal, but with the Cosmos defence
remaining strong that solitary strike would prove to be enough.
