(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 4v1 New York Athletic Club
Saturday 9th June 2018
Rocco Commisso Stadium, New York Attendance -
Cosmos
continued their impressive NPSL form with a 6th straight victory following
another comprehensive win, this time a 4v1 win over previously unbeaten New
York Athletic Club. There were early warning signs for the visitors as a long
ball found Wojcik who slipped in Szetela, but with the goal gaping he produced
a weak effort which allowed the keeper to make a save.
The
game was one way traffic in the early period of the game with NYAC unable to
get out of their own half and Cosmos were starting to carve out opportunities
on goal. NYAC held out until the 19th minute when Wojcik headed in from close
range from a Bardic cross. The Cosmos continued to dominate and soon extended
the lead after a fantastic move. Garcia played an inch perfect ball out to
Neeskenes out on the left wing whose far post cross was knocked back by Barrajo
to Joey Sanchez who provided the finish.
Cosmos
came close to adding a 3rd in similar circumstances from a similar move this
time Garcia pinged the ball out to Barrajo on the right wing. He squared it for
Szetela whose wayward shot fell to Bardic who slid in to send it towards goal,
but the keeper managed to prevent it from going in.
With
NYAC showing little in attack Cosmos eased off the pressure but a great strike
from just outside the box by Danny Szetela just before half time flew into the
top corner of the goal to make it 3v0.
The
visitors came out with a more determined attitude in the 2nd half although it
didn't make much difference initially as Cosmos extended the lead early in the
2nd half. Sanchez slipped the ball through to Bardic whose shot was saved and
with Wojcik looking to pounce on the rebound he was brought down for a penalty.
Szetela
sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 4v0 to Cosmos. It could have been
worse just short of the hour mark when a NYAC player headed against his own
post.
The
visitors pulled a goal back when Blair converted an effort into the bottom
corner with a first time effort from a low cross from the right wing. To their credit NYAC still came forward in the latter stages even with the game out of
reach but there would be no further score as Cosmos B continue to roll through
this North Atlantic Conference.
