(NPSL 2018 North Atlantic Final) New York Cosmos B 1v1 Broojkyn Italians (aet - 5v3 on pens)

Columbia University, New York Attendance -
New York Cosmos again edged a tight contest, this time it needed a penalty shootout for the Cosmos to edge Brooklyn. Brooklyn were the only team to record a victory against the Cosmos this season, beating them in the Cup, whilst Cosmos edged the league encounter, so it was no surprise that there would be another close contest,
Strangely Cosmos were guaranteed to progress in the playoffs regardless of the result, as even a defeat would see them advance as the best losing side at this stage.
In a first half of very few chances at goal Cosmos were the team with the attacking intentions, with Brooklyn looking to counter with some pacy forwards. Travis Pittman had en effort saved halfway through the first half after a Cosmos counter-attack, but the well drilled Brooklyn side were keeping Cosmos at arms length. Just after the half hour mark Wojcik had the first clear chance as he collected a far post cross, but Brooklyn did well to block the effort from close range.Brooklyn's Clement Bourret had Tenjo scrambling across goal as a free-kick went narrowly wide,
Cosmos made a bright start to the second half, but again looked devoid of a goalscoring threat without Bardic. Brooklyn saw out the slow start to the half and threatened as Penzini did well to block a goalbound effort. But the visitors broke the deadlock after a long ball caught out the Cosmos defence and Thristino poked the ball past the onrushing Tenjo.
Cosmos were stung into action and Bartley went through on goal, but the angle was tight and the Brooklyn keeper made a good stop. But the substitute Bartley was making an impact and levelled matters soon after. Bartley got on the end fo a Szetela chip into the box and converted at the second attempt after the Brooklyn keeper had saved the initial effort.
But any momentum for the home side was immediately halted when Rafa Garcia received a red card after an altercation with a Brooklyn player.
Brooklyn went in search of a winner but Tenjo made a great stop to take the game into extra time for the 2nd time in 4 days.
With the man advantage and the most to lose Brooklyn were now the team doing more of the attacking but Cosmos stood firm and could have snatched a goal as the sprightly Bartley headed towards goal, but the Brooklyn defence regrouped to deny him. But it ws Brooklyn who came closest to snatching a winner as Tenjo made another good stop, this time from Barone.
With just 5mins remaining Reece Dalton came close to snatching a winner as his turn and shot flashed past the post, but it needed penalties to decide the tie.
After 7 successful penalties Tenjo stopped Brooklyn's 4th penalty and Borrajo converted the next kick to send Brooklyn out.
