(NPSL 2019) New York Cosmos B 2v0 Rhode Island Reds

Sunday 30th June 2019
Mitchel Athletic Complex, New York   Attendance -

Cosmos clinched the North Atlantic Title with 2 games to spare following a 2v0 win over Rhode Island. The margin of victory should have been more, but Cosmos missed 2 second half penalties.
New signing Isaac Acuna has hit the ground running for his new side as he scored twice on his first start. Acuna got his first goal after just 15mins as he was on hand to nod in from a rebound when an effort from Ansi Agolli rattled the Rhode Island crossbar.
The same player added a second with another header before half time to give Cosmos a comfortable lead at the interval.
There was no further additions to the scoreline in the second half due to Cosmos' failure to convert from the spot. Bocanegra's penalty struck the post early in the second half and Acuna did not fare any better as he squandered a golden chance of a hat-trick as he had a spot kick saved after a handball in the area.
But with Rhode Island unable to get on the scoresheet, New York recorded the win that ensures they will have top spot and home advantage for at least the first round of the playoffs against Brooklyn Italians.
