(US Open Cup 2019) Hartford Athletic 2v1 New York Cosmos B

Tuesday 15th May 2019
University of Hartford, Connecticut   Attendance - 400

Not even a spectacular 2nd half strike from Bardic could prevent Cosmos from exiting the US Cup at the hands of USL Championship side Hartford Athletic.

Hartford took the lead after 16mins when full back Harry Swartz controlled a low cross from the left wing before turning his marker well and finding the bottom corner of the goal with a neat finish.
Hartford doubled their lead on 25mins after poor defending from the visitors. Hartford won a free-kick in shooting distance but the 2 man wall allowed the shot through and the ball skipped past Castano in the Cosmos goal.
Cosmos responded well in the 2nd half an dominated the second period and gave themselves hope just before the hour mark, reducing the deficit.
There seemed little danger when Bardic recieved the ball with his back to goal half way into the Hartford half. But Bardic was allowed room to turn and with the defenders backing off he unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top right hand corner of the goal. Cosmos threw everything at the hosts but could not produce an equaliser, Danny Szetela coming close with another long range effort which crashed off the Hartford bar with the keeper well beaten halfway through the 2nd half.
