(NPSL Members Cup 2019) New York Cosmos B 3v1 Chattanooga FC

Saturday 28th September 2019
Mitchel Athletic Complex, New York   Attendance -

A brace from Aaron Dennis helped Cosmos overcome a big obstacle in their quest to lift the Members Cup as New York overcame Chattanooga 3v1. Chattanooga had not been defeated in 5 straight matches since losing their first 2 matches of the campaign and were expected to provide tough opposition.
The first chance went to the home side as Espinal was afforded too much space to get an effort on goal and produced a fine curling effort that was tipped over. But seconds later Detroit fans celebrated as Chattanooga took a surprise lead. Cosmos found themselves short of personnel on the right wing after a swift attack by the away side and Joao Costa fired past Castano after some good play.
Cosmos went straight on the attack and the returning Aaron Dennis unleashed a fierce drive straight at the Phil D'Amico in goal for the visitors. Cosmos were without striker Acuna after picking up a red card in Detroit but Shavon John-Brown and Aaron Dennis were fine replacement and they linked up well for the equaliser just before the half hour mark. Shavon Dennis broke the Chattanooga high line and he squared the ball for Dennis who just had to stretch to poke the ball into an empty net.
Dennis came close to giving Cosmos the lead soon after following a goalmouth scramble from a corner, but as Dennis fired through a crowded penatly area the ball fell straight into the arms of D'Amico.
But Dennis didn't have to wait long to get on the scoresheet again after another swift Cosmos attack. This time the attack came from the Cosmos left as Agolli burst forward and sent a cross towards Dennis who provided another close range finish to put New York ahead at the half.
The pace of John-Brown continued to cause the visitors problems in the 2nd half and after bursting through he unwisely elected to square the ball when in a shooting position and Chattanooga scrambled the ball away. Cosmos were dominating possession but Chattanooga remained a threat on the break and Cosmos keeper Castano had be alert to snuff a couple of dangerous attacks to keep New York ahead.
As the game entered the final 15mins the home side were looking for the goal to put the game to bed and Espinal went close with a long range effort that flashed past the post. Seconds later and the 2 Cosmos subs linked up as Bardic sent Ledula through, but Ledula's heavy touch denied him a shooting opportunity.
With 10mins remaining Cosmos got a third to settle any nerves as Galvao cut the ball back for Bardic who turned and drilled an effort into the net.
