(NPSL 2015) Brooklyn Italians 0v5 New York Cosmos B
Wednesday 1st July 2015
John Dewey High School, New York Attendance -
Cosmos B moved within touching distance of
wrapping up the North Atlantic Division after an emphatic 5v0 victory against
Brooklyn Italians. The B side needed a stoppage time goal to beat the Italians
in their first match, a sign of how much the B side have improved since that
game.
But
it was an even start to the match, although it needed a great sliding tackle
from Daniel Grundei to prevent the Cosmos taking an eight minute lead.
As
the game approached the half hour mark both sides an opportunity to break the
deadlock. Umen Etak was denied the
opening goal on 24mins after a great save from Brooklyn Keeper Mike Bernadi and
soon after Joachim dribbled past Zobeck, only to see his shot cleared off the
line.
Haji
Wright did manage to put the ball in the net, only to see the effort ruled out
by a handball. But 2 goals just before half time turned the game into the
visitors favour.
3
mins before the break Wright and Herlein combined to set up Bover, who put the
Cosmos ahead. Brooklyn hardly had time to recover and they were 2v0 down as
Bover struck again, this time it was Julian Stahler with the assist.
Bover
continued to be a threat in the 2nd half and came close to getting his
hat-trick 5mins into the second half. Brooklyn had made a good start to the
second half, but they failed to get on the scoresheet and fell further behind
around the hour mark. This time Bover was the creator as his ball found
Herlein, who finished brilliantly.
The
goal knocked the stuffing out of Brooklyn as Cosmos launched several attacks,
pinning Brooklyn into their own half. Pittman had an effort well saved from
Bernadi, to prevent further damage for the home side. Bernadi was in action
again as he produced a fine save from a Hernandez volley from 25 yards.
Joachim
came close to getting Brooklyn onto the scoresheet with an effort that went
inches wide, but it got worse for the home side as Cosmos added 2 more in the
closing stages.
