(NPSL 2018 Northeast Region SF) New York Cosmos B 2v0 FC Frederick

Image
Wednesday 18th July 2018 Hofstra University, New York    Attendance -  A brace from Zaire Bartley earned Cosmos a berth in the Northeast Regional final after a comfortable 2v0 win over FC Frederick. New York's progress in the playoffs had been anything but routine thusfar, but Cosmos had little trouble in this match. Cosmos had the Mid Atlantic Champions on the back foot from the start and had an early ling range effort from Neeskeens which needed a save from their keeper. Wojcik could have given Cosmos an early lead as he connected with a good cross from Szetela, but the Cosmos forward's header was straight at the keeper. Cosmos continued to pepper the Frederick goal with efforts as Espinal and Szetela both went close. It took 30mins before the visitors launched an attack of note and it was a dangerous one as the ball was played to an unmarked Eskay. Tenjo decided to rush out of his goal, but the risk paid off as under pressure Eskay could not control his s...

(NPSL 2018 North Atlantic Final) New York Cosmos B 1v1 Broojkyn Italians (aet - 5v3 on pens)

Image
Saturday 14th July 2018 Columbia University, New York    Attendance -  New York Cosmos again edged a tight contest, this time it needed a penalty shootout for the Cosmos to edge Brooklyn. Brooklyn were the only team to record a victory against the Cosmos this season, beating them in the Cup, whilst Cosmos edged the league encounter, so it was no surprise that there would be another close contest, Strangely Cosmos were guaranteed to progress in the playoffs regardless of the result, as even a defeat would see them advance as the best losing side at this stage. In a first half of very few chances at goal Cosmos were the team with the attacking intentions, with Brooklyn looking to counter with some pacy forwards. Travis Pittman had en effort saved halfway through the first half after a Cosmos counter-attack, but the well drilled Brooklyn side were keeping Cosmos at arms length. Just after the half hour mark Wojcik had the first clear chance as he collected a fa...

(NPSL 2018 North Atlantic SF) New York Cosmos B 4v2 Elm City Express (aet)

Image
Wednesday 11th July 2018 Hofstra University, New York    Attendance -  Cosmos advanced to the North Atlantic Conference Semi Finals following a tough victory over Elm City Express. Elm City were reigning champions, but only just scraped into the playoffs and had been well beaten 5v0 by the Cosmos just weeks earlier. But the Express were a much tougher prospect in this match and took an early lead after just 15mins. Express forward Asante was allowed too much room in the area and his effort struck the post, only for Tyler Carlos to be on hand to slot into an unguarded goal. Cosmos were seeing plenty of the ball but were struggling to create anything against an organised Elm City side who were looking increasingly dangerous on the counter attack, But Cosmos managed to get on level terms through Bardic as Elm City failed to deal with a cross to the far post and Bardic kept his cool scoring with a fine finish in the 29th minute, the first Cosmos shot at goal. Co...

(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 4v0 Kingston Stockade

Image
Saturday 7th July 2018 Colombia University, New York    Attendance -  Cosmos completed a perfect 10-0 season with a routine win over Kingston Stockade. From the outset the game was played almost exclusively in the Stockade half with the away team relying on the lone figure of Creswick up front to try and fashion something. Stockade held out for just over 20mins before they were undone by a fine header by Wojcik from a Barrajo cross. The goal did little to change the pattern of the game with Cosmos still dominating and they doubled their lead soon after with Barrajo again the supplier as his low cross found Bardic who made it 2v0. Bardic almost made it 3v0 after a low cross from Wojcik found the Cosmos striker, only for Bardic to somehow miss from close range, with the offside flag saving some of his embarrassment. Undeterred Bardic continued to threaten and fired into the side netting before finding the net again just before half time after a lay off by Brown...

(NPSL 2018) Hartford City1v2 New York Cosmos B

Image
Saturday 30th June 2018 Central CT State University, Connecticut   Attendance -  A Danny Szetela goal was enough to send Cosmos to victory against a tricky Hartford City side. Cosmos were the best team throughout, but could never quite impose their superiority enough to make the game comfortable. The opening goal came after a defensive mistake from the home side. A poor clearance was intercepted by Bardic and the ball was quickly laid off to Espinal, whose shot crept past the Hartford keeper in the 19th minute. The home side almost fashioned a quick equaliser when a chipped free-kick found an unmarked player in the Cosmos area, but the header went wide. But Cosmos thought they had doubled the lead after Bartley tapped in from close range following a short corner, only for the offside flag to rule the effort out. Cosmos went close again soon after when Espinal exchanged passes with a team mate before firing narrowly wide. But the Cosmos defence was showing si...

Image
Saturday 23rd June 2018 Hofstra University, New York   Attendance -  Defending NPSL champions Elm City Express were soundly thrashed at Hofstra by the New York Cosmos as the Cosmos clinched a playoff berth in style. Wojcik slotted Cosmos ahead with just 12mins on the clock and Espinal doubled the lead soon after with a screamer from outside the area that flew in, leaving the Elm City keeper grasping at thin air. Captain Danny Szetela put the game beyond the away side converting a penalty on 65mins before a double from Bardic completed the scoring.

(NPSL 2018) Seacoast United Mariners 2v4 New York Cosmos B

Image
Saturday 16th June 2018 Bowdoin College, Maine   Attendance -  Cosmos were made to work against the winless Mariners to maintain the 100% run in the NPSL. Cosmos B dominated the early possession and carved out 2 great chances for Steven and Worjik, but the chances were not taken as the game remained scoreless. It took until the half hour mark before the games first goal and it went to New York after a Neeskens shot from outside the area found the net. Bardic was introuduced to the action at half time and quickly made an impact when his low cross found Brown who converted to make it 2v0. But the home side refused to lie down and later in the half stunned the visitors with 2 goals in the space of 7mins to level matters. But faced with losing their 100% record in NPSL competition the Cosmos responded and Bardic fired Cosmos into the lead with a rocket of an effort as the game moved into the final few minutes. The 3 points were wrapped up soon after ...

(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 4v1 New York Athletic Club

Image
Saturday 9th June 2018 Rocco Commisso Stadium, New York   Attendance -  Cosmos continued their impressive NPSL form with a 6th straight victory following another comprehensive win, this time a 4v1 win over previously unbeaten New York Athletic Club. There were early warning signs for the visitors as a long ball found Wojcik who slipped in Szetela, but with the goal gaping he produced a weak effort which allowed the keeper to make a save. The game was one way traffic in the early period of the game with NYAC unable to get out of their own half and Cosmos were starting to carve out opportunities on goal. NYAC held out until the 19th minute when Wojcik headed in from close range from a Bardic cross. The Cosmos continued to dominate and soon extended the lead after a fantastic move. Garcia played an inch perfect ball out to Neeskenes out on the left wing whose far post cross was knocked back by Barrajo to Joey Sanchez who provided the finish. Cosmos came c...

(NPSL 2018) Rhode Island Reds 2v4 New York Cosmos B

Image
Saturday 2nd June 2018 Mayor Joseph M. Polise Stadium, Rhode Island,   Attendance - Cosmos saw off Rhode Island Reds mainly thanks to 3 goals in the opening 20minutes, eventually recording a 4v2 win. It didn't take long for Cosmos B to take the lead when the visiting side were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes. The game had yet to develop a rhythm when the Reds keeper made a charge out of his goal to intercept a Cosmos ball, but only succeeded in taking out Bardic on the edge of the area. Szetela stepped up to take the penalty to make it 1v0 Cosmos. The goal seemed to settle the Cosmos down into their usual stride and began to dominate possession. A clinical strike by Bardic doubled the lead soon after as he was fed in from Espinal on the right wing and delivered a clean effort into the Reds net. The Reds tried to respond and created two dangerous attacks, the first came after a slip from Garcia which allowed Reds to counter attack and a low cross ...

(NPSL 2018) TSF FC 0v5 New York Cosmos B

Image
Thursday 24th May 2018 DePaul Catholic High School, New Jersey,   Attendance - Cosmos B made it 4 out of 4 in the NPSL after another comfortable win. Again Cosmos raced into an early 2v0 lead and a sending off for the home side shortly afterwards meant that the win was never in doubt. Darwin Espinal opened the scoring after 12mins, poking the ball past the keeper and Wojcik made it 2v0 after his shot found the bottom corner. TSF were reduced to 10 men later in the half and Cosmos took advantage was Wojcik scored his 2nd of the evening and 4th in 2 games with a header from a Neeskens corner. TSF's day got worse as they fell further behind in the 2nd half with Bardic converting a Borrajo cross. There was another goal before the end as Zaire Bartley was brought down in the last minute by the TSF keeper which brought about another red card. Bartley picked himself up to score the penalty and round off the scoring.

(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 6v1 Greater Lowell United

Image
Sunday 20th May 2018 Rocco Commisso Stadium, New York,   Attendance - Cosmos eased to a 3rd straight League victory against Greater Lowell United. New York dominated from the outset and had the game won before half time against opponents who had recorded a 5v1 win just 24 hours previously. Cosmos took the lead on 9mins when Bardic converted from close range. New York continued to dominate and a second goal came after a Neeskens corner was not dealt with and Chris Wingert was on hand to convert. Wojick made it 3v0 with a simple finish after an assist from Barone from the left wing to put New York in total control at half time. The visitors showed signs of life as they closed the gap to 3v1 early in the 2nd half, but any hopes of an unlikely comeback were extinguished with a 4th Cosmos goal and Wojcik's second of the evening, with Barone again the provider. With victory in the bad New York did not let up and went on to score 2 more, Bardic also recording ...

(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 2v1 Brooklyn Italians

Image
Tuesday 15th May 2018 Hofstra University, New York,   Attendance - A Rafael Garcia brace including a wonderstrike from the halfway line earned 10 man Cosmos a 2v1 win over the Brooklyn Italians. The win gave the Cosmos a measure of revenge over the Italians who had eliminated Cosmos from the US Open Cup only days earlier. The first half between the 2 teams ended scoreless, but the Cosmos were reduced to 10 men when Billy Stevens was sent off following a challenge 10minutes before half time. New York rang the changes in the 2nd half with Wojcik making way for Nick Costa at half time and Espinal subbed for Velela in the 65th minute. The deadlock was broken when Rafa Garcia scored his first goal for his new Club with a long range strike. The Italians thought they had rescued a point after levelling late on only for Garcia to produce a moment of brilliance to win all 3 points. Straight from centre Garcia saw the keeper off his line and from the halfway line...

(US Open Cup 2018) Brooklyn Italians 3v2 New York Cosmos B

Image
Sunday 7th May 2019 LIU Brooklyn, New York   Attendance - The Cosmos exited the US Open cup at the first hurdle for the 2nd successive season after a 3v2 loss to the Brooklyn Italians. The loss is all the more galling as the Cosmos had to appeal to the USSF to gain entry to the competition following the collapse of the NASL. Cosmos started the stronger side and saw plenty of the ball with Brooklyn having to work hard to defend for long periods. Rafa Garcia had a sight of goal in the 20th minute but his shot from the edge of the area went narrowly wide. The Italians had hardly threatened a goal but against the run of play just after the half hour mark when Guiseppe Barone got on the end of a through pass and flicked the ball over the onrushing Cosmos keeper Macklin Robinson to put the home side ahead. Cosmos responded almost immediately in similar circumstances, this time it was Bardic who got on the end of a long ball from Chris Wingert and he Bardic poked t...

(NPSL 2018) Boston City 0v4 New York Cosmos B

Image
Sunday 29th April 2018 Maiden Catholic High School, Massachusetts,   Attendance - It had been a very difficult off season for the New York Cosmos, with only one side competing in the 2018 season, the B side in the NPSL. But the B side lifted spirits with a convincing win in Boston to give the campaign a good start. Cosmos looked a cut above their opponents from the early stages and following a short corner Joe Sanchez fired a low ball across the Boston 6 yard box and Penzini was in hand to convert from close range. Boston were struggling to get anything going in attack as the Cosmos defence were dominant. Cosmos were continuing to move the ball around quickly, although chances on goal were not in abundance. But when the Cosmos did create opportunities they were despatched clinically and former Tampa Bay Rowdie Darwin Espinal doubled the Cosmos lead on 18mins. Bardic profited from a miscued clearance from Boston and he sent over a cross which was met at the ...
