(NPSL 2018) New York Cosmos B 2v1 Brooklyn Italians
Tuesday 15th May 2018
Hofstra University, New York, Attendance -
A Rafael Garcia brace including a
wonderstrike from the halfway line earned 10 man Cosmos a 2v1 win over the
Brooklyn Italians. The win gave the Cosmos a measure of revenge over the
Italians who had eliminated Cosmos from the US Open Cup only days earlier.
The first half between the 2 teams
ended scoreless, but the Cosmos were reduced to 10 men when Billy Stevens was
sent off following a challenge 10minutes before half time.
New York rang the changes in the 2nd
half with Wojcik making way for Nick Costa at half time and Espinal subbed for
Velela in the 65th minute. The deadlock was broken when Rafa Garcia scored his
first goal for his new Club with a long range strike.
The Italians thought they had
rescued a point after levelling late on only for Garcia to produce a moment of
brilliance to win all 3 points. Straight from centre Garcia saw the keeper off
his line and from the halfway line his effort flew into the net past the
outstretched hands of the Brooklyn keeper for the match winning goal.
