(NPSL 2015) New York Athletic Club 1v2 New York Cosmos B
Sunday 21st June 2015
Travers Island, New York Attendance -
Cosmos B extended
their lead at the top of the Division after a physical, gritty victory against
New York Athletic Club.
It
was an even start to the game as the B side survived an early scare after
15mins after a mix up in the Cosmos defence. But John Neeskeens came to the
rescue after clearing the ball off the line. Cosmos had not hit top form, but
Hagop Chirishian was starting to pull the strings and Cosmos made the
breakthrough just shy of the half hour mark with Stahler making the
breakthrough, tapping in from a low Mulligan cross.
Bover
made it 2v0 4mins later after a great piece of individual skill. Bover produced
a 20 yard chip over the keeper to double the lead and put the Cosmos into a 2v0
lead at half time.
The
second half was a physical encounter and the home sides hopes of getting
something out of the game appeared to have ended when they were reduced to 10
men following a 2 footed tackle from Leonardo Gomez with 19mins remaining.
But
despite the sending off NYAC pulled a goal back on 78mins , converting a
rebound from a save by Cosmos keeper Holt, who had come on as a substitute.
Cosmos
had a chance to wrap up the 3 points in the last minute of normal time when
Chelsea made a run from the halfway line. He unselfishly squared to Diaby, but
the NYAC keeper made a great save to keep his side in the game.
But
the Cosmos saw out the remaining minutes to seal an important win.
