(NPSL Members Cup 2019) Michigan Stars 0v2 New York Cosmos B

Saturday 31st August 2019
Ultimate Soccer Arena, Pontiac, Michigan   Attendance -

Cosmos returned to the top of the Members Cup table following a 2v0 victory over Michigan Stars. It was the first appearance in an indoor facility for the Cosmos since the reboot and 2 goals and a clean sheet was enough to earn the 3 points.
Cosmos dominated possession in the first half but rarely troubled the Michigan goal early on, with the only thing of note being a speculative long range effort after 15mins which went wide. Without showing any real impressive play themselves Michigan managed to fashion the more dangerous moments of the first half. Early in the game an overhit cross had to be tipped over by the Cosmos keeper Castano and Castano had to be sharp to clear an underhit backpass shortly after. Later in the half a shot flashed dangerously across the Cosmos goal after a goalmouth scramble.
Cosmos improved as the half wore on and Espinal finally tested the Michigan keeper on the half hour mark with a long range effort that the keeper needed to get down well to, to keep the scores level.
But Espinal was not be denied for long as he got on the end of a low Bardic cross to slot the ball into the net with 10mins remaining in the half to go in ahead at the interval.
New York's momentum carried on into the second half and looked the more dangerous. There have been some cracking strikes from New York in the Members Cup so far and Al Hassan delivered another as he unleashed a vicious shot on the turn that flew into top corner.
There was little in the way of a response from the home side as Cosmos remained in control. Bardic could have extended the win, after controlling a low cross from the right he flashed a shot over. But Cosmos saw the game out with minimal fuss to return to the simmit of the table.
